Are you facing any of these end of life journey issues?
• My loved one has a terminal disease.
• My loved one is in hospice care.
• The dying process is overwhelming.
• What steps should I take for my loved ones care.
End of Life Doulas are the “informed companion” bringing comfort, support, compassion, and assist a person and their family in feeling safe and supported during this important transition.
Doulas provide a peaceful, safe, nurturing space for the person approaching death as well as those around them by doing all we can to ensure that the person who is dying has all their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs met. A Doula does this by being a resource: providing options, explaining what is happening and what one might expect, giving support, listening and caring.
Supporting the family and others close to the person dying is an essential part of an end of life Doula’s role. Sometimes that is where most of the support is given…providing support and resources to the person/s who care for the person dying.
End of Life decisions can be overwhelming. Our one hour consultation will help you and your family understand options that best fit your circumstances and how we can support you in the journey.
An Advanced Directive outlines your wishes for your care. We recommend an advanced directive (also called a living will) regardless of your life status to determine what your end of life wishes may be. Our consultation on advanced directives includes 2 sessions at 1.5 hours each to plan and document your wishes.
Legacy Projects
We all hope to leave some sort of legacy to pass on to our families. It may be a certain book, a memory box, picture books, or even more elaborate. One example is when a client with the help of her End of Life Doula used Skype to converse with her 10 grandchildren who were around the country. The grandchildren collected stories about her and put them into a book with commentary and pictures. The week before her passing, family who were present each took turns reading from the book to the client, bringing to life the wonderful memories she had with each person.
As End of Life Doulas, we assist you and your family create the legacy that has meaning, can be shared with others and will remain for your family to cherish.
